Every model in the Instant Pot range does the same core job: it is an electric pressure cooker that also slow cooks, sautés and steams. So this page compares the models on what changes between them, using the specification Instant Pot states for each, and ranks them on what verified owners report: praise against complaints for each model, with reliability complaints weighed most. Where an owner sample is small, we say so.

What owners say about Instant Pots: choose the size first

The clearest finding across the eight Instant Pot models we analyzed is that the model matters less than the size.

• Praise is ahead of complaints on every model, by about two to one or better on most, and ease of use and quality lead the praise on every one. There is no model to avoid outright.
• Size is the joint most common complaint, in both directions: owners who found their pot too small, and owners who found it larger than they expected. Units that did not work come up just as often, followed by durability and heating.
• The 7.5- and 8-quart models had narrower margins than the 3- to 6-quart ones. The bigger pots are not worse cookers, but more of their owners report problems with them.

What changes as you move up the range

Not the basic cooking. Every model pressure cooks, slow cooks, sautés and steams in the same way. The 7-function models also cook rice, make yogurt and keep food warm.

The size. From 3 quarts on the Duo Mini to 8 quarts on the Pro and Duo Crisp. Power rises with it, from 700 watts on the 3-quart to 1,400 on the Pro 8-quart and 1,500 on the Duo Crisp.

The number of functions. Seven on the Duo and Rio models, nine on the Duo Plus, ten on the Pro and eleven on the Duo Crisp. In the owner reviews we analyzed, the extra functions were rarely what owners praised; ease of use and the cooking itself were.
